When We See Each Other // the return
Re-releasing remastered conversations with mainly BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+ artists.
Once upon a time, there was a podcast called When We See Each Other. Then, for reasons out of our control, the show went away... And as they say, IYKYK.
The thing is... the podcast still existed, but it was no longer available where it once was.
The further thing is... it was a real shame when the show became unavailable because the host, Nikkiesha McLeod, had conducted many wonderful interviews with musicians about the ways in which they practice their craft, the ways in which they express their identities, and how they generally go about their artistic journeys. And most of those musicians were BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+ and shared some very deep experiences about these aspects of their identities and how they informed their work.
Well, we're happy to say that we've now begun the process of re-releasing episodes of the show. And so far, we have 4 interviews back online that you can listen to, all with remastered audio....
Nikkie interviewed the Black Trans artist Anjimile, ahead of the release of their album, Giver Taker, from Father/Daughter Records.
Thanks to the folks at 4AD and The Glow Management for their help with the re-release!
Mackenzie Shivers is a NYC based independent singer/songwriter – and a longtime friend and collaborator of Nikkie's. They spoke ahead of the release of her album, Rejection Letter.
Mel Fine is a non-binary singer/songwriter based in Boston, Massachusetts. Their single, “In Between,” served as their coming out announcement and was released shortly before their chat with Nikkie.
An Only Child is a singer-songwriter, dancer, and filmmaker based in Los Angeles. Their album, Prepare The Body, was released shortly before their chat with Nikkie.
Thanks!
We'd like to sincerely thank these artists for working with us and giving permission to let us re-release their interviews. And we also thank them for trusting us to present their stories in the first place!
Also, thanks to Bryan Bruchman, the illustrator of the artist images above!
What Next?
Going forward, we hope to be able to re-release more of the interviews from the When We See Each Other archive. We also plan to start producing new episodes again. So, please stay tuned for both of those things!
