I met Alyse when she was still relatively new to NYC (I think?) and fronting a band called EULA – a post-punk/indie power trio that I immediately liked. This must've been around 2009-2010, I suppose. And I think it was at Bar Matchless (RIP) in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Over the next few years I became friendly with the band, booking them on various bills I put together, including at Fort Useless, the DIY venue I ran in Bushwick from 2009-2014. Some of my most memorable moments with EULA revolved around Halloween because in 2010 they played the Fort Useless Halloween Party dressed as skeletons, then I booked them to appear in the same outfits on my buddy Travis' podcast and video series, Live at Serious Business, which I produced.

My old band, Coyote Eyes, also played some shows with them and, when my even older band, Man In Gray was considering doing a (second) reunion show, I had it in my head that EULA would've been perfect to join us on that theoretical bill. IYKYK.

Among many other interesting things, Alyse went on to form a new group called Parlor Walls. Perhaps needless to say, I also love that band and I have been thrilled to also work with them over the years. I believe they may have a new album cooking, by the way, so look out for that!

But one of the other things Alyse has been up to is producing music as Alyse Dreamhouse. The music is sort of hypnotic and uncanny – and completely captivating. I felt so drawn to it, in fact, that I reached out to ask if I could remix one of her recent singles, "Magazine," as part of my own solo project, theJLM. The result is a track and accompanying video that are perhaps collectively my favorite thing I've worked on recently and as of next week, on 9/18/2025, will be my first solo release in years – really the first of this new era (for lack of a less lofty word) of my solo work, in which I have plans to more regularly release various music and video projects – including a mix of originals, covers, and more remixes. Stay tuned!

I appreciate so much that Alyse has trusted me with doing this, especially in the lead up to her new LP, Body Mess, which should be out by the end of the month. Please go and follow her on Bandcamp and anywhere else you get music!

And I would greatly appreciate if you could follow theJLM on Bandcamp and Instagram, pre-save the track on Spotify, and/or pre-add it on Apple Music. Here's a handy page with all the links.
