It’s Jeremiah’s pick… ‘Rashomon,’ the 1950 film by Akira Kurosawa, is often credited with reintroducing the world to Japanese cinema post-World War II. Its premise, which explores one dramatic incident from the perspective of a few different characters, has become an archetypal template for exploring the effects of perspective on perception. As a result, it has been emulated often over the decades.

The film has appeared twice on Sight & Sound magazine’s decennial poll of the “greatest films” as voted on by directors – #10 in 1992 and #9 in 2002.
